My travel research experiences and my interviews with travel industry professionals show that potential travelers want to hear personal experiences of what a location is like beyond brochures. Currently, no single travel industry medium is fulfilling this consumer desire. The majority of travel destination websites are essentially interactive phone books with flavor text. Travel books contain an abundance of facts that lack the personal tone and first-hand experiences that entice people to read. Travel magazines do an excellent job of relaying a sense of place and giving service information, but a magazine
article can only tell a small part of a destination’s entire story, and a piece of paper can only provide static visuals. Travel television shows also give a real sense of place with motion graphics, but viewers have no control over what topics air at what time.
The Internet is the perfect medium because it has the best feature
of all mediums. The purpose of this web site is to show the technical,
visual, and conceptual possibilities that are available today to
give potential travelers the information they want, through the
media of their choosing.
